Hospital Policies

Our hospital policies are created to help our business run smoothly so we can focus on giving your pet the best care possible and to help reduce the cost for medical care.  If you have any questions regarding our hospital policies please speak with a member of our veterinary team.

Payment Policy

Full payment is required at the time that services are rendered.  Prepayment is required for 'drop off' appointments, including diagnostic, long term boarding and new boarding patients.  An estimate will be provided for the requested services at the time of all drop-off appointments.  Any additional charges above and beyond the estimate is due at the time of patient discharge.  For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Cash, and CareCredit.  If you would like an estimate for your pet's medical care please let one of our certified veterinary technicians know at check-in and they will be happy to help you.

Appointment Policy

To allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment.  Emergency and critical cases will receive top priority, which is why occasional delays in our scheduled appointments may occur.  Though these cases are not common we hope clients will understand and be patient with any unexpected delays that an emergency situation may cause.  Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time.  To prevent untimely delays, arrive on time, or slightly early, for your appointment.  Any client that is more than 15 minutes late may be asked to reschedule their pet's appointment.  If you can not make your scheduled appointment on time please give us a call as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate your pet.   We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

For your convenience, morning 'drop-off' appointments are available by request for existing clients. This means you can drop off your pet in the morning at a time that works best for you and leave him/her with us for the day.   'Drop off' patients are examined by a doctor either between scheduled appointments or during a time reserved for admitted patients.  Once the doctor has examined your pet, he or she will give you a call to go over any abnormal exam findings, recommendations or treatment plans.  To avoid unwanted delays in the treatment of your pet, clients must be reachable by phone while their pet is admitted to the hospital.   All 'drop off' appointments will be charged a kennel fee for the maintenance of their pet while they are in the hospital.

For the safety of you and your pet, please have your dog leashed and properly controlled while in the hospital.  Cats should be confined to an appropriate cat carrier or, at minimum, on a leash. Although your pet may appear fine, a veterinary hospital often has a wide variety of ill, scared, fearful or even aggressive pets present. Unpredictable situations can arise at anytime.  If you do not have a portable kennel or leash, we will be happy to provide one during your appointment.

Aggressive Pets

For the safety of our clients and patients, Brookdale Animal Hospital, PA retains the right to refuse service to any pet that exhibits severe aggression and can not be safely handled.

Cancellation Policy

Due to our ability to only offer a limited number of appointments each day we require a 24  hour cancellation notice for all appointments.  We will do our best to help remind you of your scheduled appointment or any special instructions for your appointment by calling you the day before.  **Please be advised that a non-refundable deposit may be required for clients that have recurrent missed appointments or do not give proper cancellation notice.

Client/Patient Privacy Policy

To protect our clients personal information, Brookdale Animal Hospital, P.A. must have a verbal or written consent to transfer, copy or transmit, either a portion or full medical history, from our hospital. This complies with standards set by AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) and MVMA (Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association.)

Medical records are considered confidential and contain personal client information.  We believe the protection of patient and client information is critical.  We will make every effort to work with other veterinary hospitals or personnel in a timely manner as requested by the client.

Prescription Policy

Prescription medications and prescription diets can only be filled when a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR) exists.  The VCPR requirements are based on the severity of your pet's illness and type of prescription medication or food that you are requesting.

PLEASE NOTE:  If we have not examined your pet within the last year we can not fill any prescription medications without an exam.  A one time limited amount of the Hill's Science Diet Prescription food may be authorized on a case by case basis.  We recommend calling us at least 24 hours in advance for all prescription refills.  This allows us to make sure that we have your pet's prescription available and that it will be ready for you to pick up when your arrive.

Returns

Federal law prohibits the return of prescription medications.  We recommend you dispose of all expired or unused prescriptions to prevent unlawful use.  To find out where you can dispose of your old prescription medication click on the following link.  Disposal of Prescription Medications in Brooklyn Park

Rabies Vaccination Policy

For the safety of our staff and clients, we require all dogs and cats to be current on their rabies vaccination for services to be rendered. If a pet is too ill to be vaccinated, we will delay the vaccination until the pet has sufficiently recovered.  All cats and dogs 6 months and over are required to be licensed with the city of Brooklyn Park.  Current rabies vaccination status is required for licensure.
